School 4 Burma Competition - Honorable Mention, Student Category

The aim of this project was to provide an educational facility for refugees from Myanmar now living on the border with Thailand. Due to these refugees lacking land ownership in the region, a temporary structure was necessary. I developed a modular design that operates from the standpoint of simplicity, thereby creating an educational building for the community that can be easily constructed/deconstructed and transported. Modularity is seen here as working with elements that are carry-able, thus removing the need for heavy machinery. Expansion and other building forms are also possible with regards to programmatic or site-specific needs. Materials deployed have been selected with respect to sustainability and local availability. The building water concept harvests rainwater in a small closed system in order to minimize material and energy usage.
