A new series of programmatic elements for NYC Fashion Week 2010 were to be merged with the existing Lincoln Center in New York City, as part of a four-week studio design project. My strategy operates from the idea that the city can be viewed as a series of stages within stages. Modularity, flexibility, and the idea of light as a building material have all been incorporated in this ‘nested theater’ approach, designed to maximize social interaction. Users define their own temporal stages within larger physical stages such as the café, which serves to stitch together disparate programs from a central datum plane. Fritted glass panels allow for a certain coding of light and views which respond to interior programmatic conditions.
