With the assignment of turning an otherwise ordinary park activity, ‘walking’, into something spectacular, my group and I created this temporary installation from nearly a mile of unbroken twine, boards, olive paint, and nails. This life-sized cat’s cradle was strung in the University of Illinois Arboretum across several familiar outdoor rooms and desire lines, and sought to heighten park-goers’ awareness of their environment. By intentionally interrupting worn patterns of use in the park, the installation cast into relief the inherent and oft forgotten beauty of the space.
